1. BACKGROUND TO THE ASSIGNMENT:

Supportive Supervision is a comprehensive approach applicable to various forms of supervision within Mental Health Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) programs, including clinical and technical aspects. It emphasizes collaboration and non-hierarchical relationships, providing space for supervisees to address work-related issues and offering emotional support. Additionally, it involves monitoring workloads to prevent burnout. Consistent, supportive, and clinical supervision is crucial for upholding the quality of International Medical Corps’ (IMC) MHPSS services and ensuring the well-being of service providers.


International Medical Corps, committed to conducting an MHPSS Supportive Supervision Approach Training with the support of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints grant to benefit 24 university lecturers in psychology departments on the supportive supervision approach.



2. PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:


This consultancy seeks a dedicated individual to train 24 IMC MHPSS workforce members, two universities and their partners to deliver the highest level of services. The consultant will uphold best practices using the Integrated Model of Supervision (IMS), rooted in human rights principles, equality, and evidence-based practice. Implementing supportive supervision as outlined in the IMS will enhance the global mental health workforce’s ability to provide high-quality, timely, appropriate, safe, and ethical MHPSS interventions to individuals affected by adversity.



3. SCOPE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:

  • Provide 2 weeks of training for 24 participants covering the core components of the IMS training
    • Modules 1-4 (12 participants per training for 2 weeks). Each IMS training session will span 5 days.
    • Adapted IMS Training package geared towards professionals working in university settings
  • Follow up with supervisees after the training for a duration of 6 months. Supervision will be provided in group format, with individual supervision provided as needed.

4. DELIVERABLES DESCRIPTION:

Deliverables:

  • Workplan.
  • Rapid needs assessment report.
  • Tailored training agenda with a description of materials and adaptations made.
  • Training report with recommendations.
  • Findings presentation the International Medical Corps Senior Management Team (SMT) and The International Medical Corps MHPSS Technical Unit.

4.1. IMPLEMENTATION OF THE ASSIGNMENT DELIVERABLES

  • Develop a work plan for IMS training in Ukraine with input from key stakeholders within IMC.
  • Conduct a rapid needs assessment and gain familiarity with the context of Ukraine, including a desk review and key informant interviews.
  • Facilitate a pre-training meeting for all participants (refer to IMS Training Curriculum).
  • Provide implementation consultation after in-person training for key stakeholders of IMC and their MHPSS workforce.
  • Ensure the implementation of proper IMS supervision standards that can be integrated across sectors, including social welfare, health, education, nutrition, WASH, and protection.
  • Coordinate connection between IMC and other actors working within Ukraine who have been trained on the IMS to facilitate in-country community of practice.

Six members of the IMC MHPSS team and members from the implementing partners will be trained to benefit the people targeted by IMC programming in Ukraine. The findings presentation aims to be a resource to capitalize the learnings of the training.
